Lay Ministry

Description: The purpose of the Connectional Lay Organization is to organize and train the lay members to utilize to the maximum the abilities and skills granted by God, in assisting with the improvement and extension of God's kingdom, and creating happiness, peace and harmony among it's members. There are 14 objectives outlined in the Constitution and By-laws of the Lay Organization found in the AME Discipline.

The NBC Lay Organization will work toward "Instilling in the membership a love for and an appreciation of the history, tradition, and principles of African Methodism in order to keep alive the sacred memory of our founder Richard Allen." Also, we will encourage the laity to support the total program of the church in the local congregation, in the community and throughout the Connection.

Guiding Scripture: Ephesians 4:11-13 NIV, ( emphasis on 12)
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, (12) to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be bullt up (13) until we reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
